“Make do with less” is the theme that will save the consolidated hospital more than $25 million in annual operating costs per year once construction is completed. By closing the Boston University inpatient campus, BMC is able to reduce beds and dramatically increase its private room complement. TRO is providing full Architecture/MEP/Interiors services on this most challenging urban site with overlapping design and construction. One third new construction and two thirds renovations totaling $168 million using IPD project delivery has been a case history of daily and weekly problem solving to achieve the most value in the final product.
The collaboration between the Owner, design and construction teams has proven that collective knowledge and insight is able to create best scenarios and make decisions that stick. The amount of alterations has created additional challenges in bringing existing facilities up to current codes and standards, all to be done with a fully operational facility. This project personifies our firm by our ability to respond to challenges and to design as a unified team in seeking solutions.
